Tasks and Goals

We have set ourselves the goal of preserving and promoting knowledge about the history of water, energy supply, and piping technology. To this end, we support relevant research, and pass on knowledge about the history of water, energy and piping technology. The Frontinus Society also actively supports aspiring young researchers working in the field of technological history and offers a platform for information and knowledge for interested people.

To achieve these goals, we organise specialist events, national and international symposia , as well as excursions.

We publish a large number of works dealing with the history of water, energy and pipeline technology, including the Frontinus-Newspapers , the Frontinus Booklet Series , the bookseries "History of Water Supply" , volumes in Babesch supplement volumes and other supplements and special volumes . In addition, we inform our members about monographs and further publications by other authors or editors.

Furthermore, we encourage scientists, especially students and young researchers, by supporting new research projects, by awarding scholarships, and by establishing professional networks. We also cooperate with other institutions and associations.

In addition, we offer scientists and students as well as all interested people access to our large online Frontinus library .
